Cruz soundly defeats Trump in Franklin County

Franklin County Republicans followed other Iowa conservatives Monday night, casting a majority of votes in favor of caucus winner Ted Cruz.
     The Texas senator received 35.8 percent of votes at the local level. Donald Trump received 25.3 percent of votes in Franklin County, which was good enough for second place. Overall, Cruz garnered 27.6 percent of Republican votes statewide to edge Trump by three points in the final standings.
     Six hundred twenty-eight Republicans participated at 11 local precincts, which was 154 more than turnout at the 2012 caucus.
