Usually tarantulas and scorpions can only be found in libraries if they’re confined to the stories between book covers but last week, a whole hoard of critters visited Hampton Public Library.
As part of the summer reading program, A Universe of Stories, the Iowa State University Insect Zoo last Wednesday stopped at the library with dozens of insects from worms to beetles and anything in between with wings and a bunch of legs.
Brenda Van Wert, children’s librarian, said the program was fitting for the theme. An up close look at some of the smaller, more unique animals often hidden in the ecosystems gave children a new perspective as to what exists in nature.
