Council waives Jan. 7 parking tickets

Residents who violated Hampton’s snow ordinance on Jan. 7 were given a break last Thursday following a unanimous decision by the city council.
Nearly 90 vehicles were ticketed for parking on the street when the city’s snow ordinance was in effect on Jan. 7. Due to the high volume of citations and confusion over the rules, the council felt dismissing the tickets and tweaking the ordinance was the best option to avoid future issues.
The council will discuss possible ordinance changes during its Feb. 23 workshop. City Manager Ron Dunt and Public Works Director Doug Tarr have drafted an amendment for the council’s consideration. Any action on the matter would come at the Feb. 26 regular meeting.
