Council sets sights on vandalism, indecent exposure during workshop

Ongoing discussion about Homecoming vandalism, indecent exposure ordinance and infrastructure improvements topped a wide-ranging agenda at the Hampton City Council workshop Monday night.

     Hampton-Dumont Liaison Officer Joel Heuer and City Attorney Megan Rosenberg met with the group and examined ways to curb problematic Homecoming behavior. This fall, students vandalized public and private property, set off fireworks, stretched cellophane wrap across intersections and blocked traffic downtown during Homecoming week. The shenanigans went above and beyond previous pranks, which led city officials and school personnel to brainstorm possible solutions.

        Mayor Brook Boehmler called some of this year’s vandalism “appalling” and emphasized the need to stop it from reoccurring next fall.
