Cougars shoot past Indians in regional semifinal

The AGWSR girls basketball team defeated Lynnville-Sully 53-45 on Monday night to advance to the Class 1A state basketball tournament. Their opponent is Exira/EHK on Wednesday, Feb. 28.
 
ACKLEY – When Class 1A eighth-ranked AGWSR opened with a 9-0 run to start this regional semifinal game against Clarksville, it was hard not to think the game was already decided.
The Indians responded with an 8-0 run of their own to trail only by one by the end of the second quarter.
However, the Cougars responded with a 15-5 second quarter and then opened the second half with three straight three-pointers, alternately between Mandy Willems and Aubrie Fisher, to then break it wide open in the eventual 55-28 AGWSR victory.
“Willems and Fisher are two of the best shooters in the state,” Clarksville coach Ross Timmermans said...
