PARKERSBURG – AGWSR’s softball team is heading back to the state softball tournament.

The Cougars defeated Don Bosco 9-5 to earn a return trip after finishing third in the 2013 Class 2A field.

Co-coaches Scott O’Brien and Brenda Drake’s team is down a class, competing in Class 1A, and are one of the favorites in the field.

Ranked fourth for the last three weeks of the regular season, AGWSR mowed its way to the regional final, winning via the 10-run rule against CAL and Colo-Nesco before matching up with the Dons, also a team that qualified for last year’s state field.

Both Olivia Ingledue and Ashley Sicard homered for the Cougars (27-6-1), who combined for 11 hits against Don Bosco (20-15).

Sicard, despite walking four, struck out nine and yielded only four hits. Three of the five runs she gave up were earned.

Madi Fryslie and Ingledue hit 3-for-5 and each scored three times for AGWSR.

AGWSR will play Bellevue Marquette Catholic (34-6) at 3 p.m. on Mittera Field at the Harlan and Hazel Rogers Complex at Fort Dodge on Tuesday, July 22.
