Controlled burns still keeping fire departments busy

Local emergency personnel are reminding Franklin County residents about controlled burn regulations following a string of fire calls this month.
     Landowners wishing to conduct controlled burns must first call the sheriff’s office and provide details about the time and location of the fire. Franklin County fire departments have responded to multiple unreported burns this month, which have been exasperated by dry ground conditions and strong winds.
     “A lot of times people will drive by and see a field’s on fire and they’ll call it in,” said Hampton Fire Chief Kent Wilkinson. “Just use some common sense. If you have a bunch of buildings nearby and the wind is blowing towards it, maybe hold off until conditions are better.”
