When school starts next year, current CAL seventh grader Natalie Castro and her classmates will be in a new environment as the whole grade sharing agreement between CAL and Hampton-Dumont takes effect.
In preparation for the transition, CAL and H-D participated in a series of connector days, in which H-D and CAL students were paired up with a "connector" and conducted a series of activities to get to know each other. Curriculum director Jen Koenen said the idea behind the connector program was to give CAL students a "go-to" peer to answer questions and help find their way around the new building next year.
"They'll have that one person that can be their go-to, that one person that can be a resource to answer questions and show them around," she said.
Castro said the connector project is comforting for her, as it guarantees she'll have a familiar, friendly face to show her the ropes at H-D when school begins in the fall.
"Being able to know someone makes me feel a lot better," she said.
