Certified enrollment down, but finances not an issue for H-D

Certified enrollment reports were finalized early last week, depicting the Hampton-Dumont enrollment numbers down by 18, bringing the total number of enrollment decline to 38 over the last two years.
Superintendent Todd Lettow explained at the H-D regular board of education meeting that the decline in enrollment however, is not a warning for decreased finances.
Of the 18, 10 were attributed to a drop in students from the district. Students open enrolled out of the district are down approximately seven, which accounts for the roughly 18 student decline (students are some times measured above 1 or below one, making the actual number a portion of a student or over a portion of a student). Lettow said that the seven students open enrolled out of the district were students that the school collected money from, then paid to another school. With those students off the report, the district is neither losing money or making money.
Open enrollment in H-D includes 10 students, who are out of district, which H-D receives funding for. Lettow said that negates the 10 student loss.
