CAL school board election has no surprises

Three uncontested candidates were elected tonight to the CAL Community School District Board of Education with 100 percent of the votes counted.

According to the Franklin County Auditor Michelle Giddings, Mitch Vanness, Austin Elling and Todd Mensing were re-elected to the board. Vanness received 50 votes - 35 from Latimer and 15 from Alexander. Elling also received 50 votes - 35 from Latimer and 15 from Alexander. Mensing had 47 votes cast in his favor, 33 from Latimer and 14 from Alexander. Mensing's at-large seat also saw one write-in candidate receive one vote. 

The voter turnout for the election was a mere 4.58 percent - only 50 of 1,092 registered voters cast ballots Tuesday.
