The future of CAL’s football program was left in the school board’s hands Monday night following an emotional meeting that featured testimony from players and community members.

Football Coach/Activities Director Scott Striegel presented a detailed slideshow outlining options for the 2015 season. Low participation numbers have hampered CAL’s eight-man program in recent years and forced discussion about its future viability. Nothing was decided Monday, but school board members will use the input from the meeting when they make their final decision next month.

“We’ve made great strides as a football program in the past two years,” said Striegel. “Have we won on the scoreboard? No. But this isn’t about that. Football is about numbers, and participation has been low.”
