CAL board votes to keep football program

Friday night lights will remain lit at the CAL football field this fall.
For now, anyway.
The CAL Board of Education unanimously approved a plan Monday night that will keep the school’s varsity eight-man program alive in 2015. The decision came following extensive community-wide debate about the team’s future, which was called into question last season following three straight years of low participation numbers.
“If we lose the football program, other sports are going to follow,” said Board President Steve Muhlenbruch. “I don’t want that to happen. I’d just as soon it stays here.”
