Bulldogs nipped by Independence in 2A regional dual

NEW HAMPTON – Before the season started, Hampton-Dumont wrestling coach Mike Schimp said his team wasn’t up there yet when it came to competing for the North Central Conference, let alone a shot at the regional dual meet.
With a lot of hard work and perseverance, the Bulldogs were right there for both.
During Wednesday’s Class 2A regional dual first-round against Independence, H-D had a shot against the Mustangs trailing 36-27 with two matches to go.
Indee managed to gain the 5-2 win by decision in the second-to-last match at 182 pounds to clinch it and gave up a forfeit to fourth-ranked Dalton Chipp with the dual already decided for the 39-33 final.
