Bulldogs make walking off routine

HAMPTON — The Hampton-Dumont baseball team pulled off another come-from-behind victory on Saturday, June 30.
 
This time, the Bulldogs overcame an early 5-1 deficit to defeat Nashua-Plainfield 6-5 and walked it off with Dustin Miller’s bases-loaded hit to right in this non-conference tilt.
 
The game was played at Noon, early because of anticipated thunderstorms later in the day, had less-than-ideal conditions under a heat advisory with temperatures feeling closer to the 100-degree range.
 
Trailing 5-4 entering the seventh, H-D got a lead-off hit from Taylan Healey, a one-out walk by Lukas Smith, followed up by a hit from Jordan Severs and an RBI hit by Zarek Mahler that tied it before Dustin Miller’s game-winner.
 
“Same thing as before, we didn’t come ready to play right away, got down,” H-D coach Matt Lokenvitz said. “Battled back and won it in the bottom of the seventh again. Dustin Miller had a great game. Drew Uhlenhopp had a good game and Quinn Logan pitched a heck of a game, went the distance.
 
“And it was a hot day to be doing it. It was a pretty well-played game. We’ll take it.”
