Bulldogs girls basketball suffer first loss

HAMPTON—- In a battle between two Bulldogs teams it was the  No. 10 Algona Bulldogs that came away with the win as the  No. 12 Hampton-Dumont-CAL Bulldogs fell 44-34 at home on Jan. 10. It was the first loss of the year for Hampton-Dumont-CAL, which fell to 10-1 on the year.

 

Hampton-Dumont-CAL jumped out to a 16-7 lead after the first quarter, but scored only two points in the second quarter as the team was outscored by Algona 13-2 to enter halftime down 20-18. Hampton-Dumont-CAL’s struggles on offense continued in the third quarter as they were outscored 12-5 to make it a 32-23 game heading into the fourth quarter. Hampton-Dumont-CAL got some more shots to fall in the fourth quarter but the team was still outscored 12-11 in the final quarter.

 

Hampton-Dumont-CAL went 13-for-45 from the field as a team for a 28.9 shooting percentage and went 3-for-19 from the three-point line. The team also went 5-for-10 from the free-throw line. Brooklyn Valley and Jordan Valley led the team with 11 points each, Lily Hambly scored eight points, and MacKenzy Valley and Charlee Morton both scored two points each. 

 

Hampton-Dumont-CAL won the turnover battle as they had only 10 turnovers in the game while Algona had 17. Hampton-Dumont-CAL had 13 steals in the game, Brooklyn Valley led the team with four steals, Jordan Valley added three steals, MacKenzy Valley added two steals, Hambly, Morton, Kenzie Moorehead, and Addison Aalbers all had one steal each. Hampton was outrebounded 33025 in the game, Hambly led the team with eight rebounds, Brooklyn Valley added seven rebounds, Morton had five rebounds, Moorehead added two rebounds, MacKenzy Valley, Jordan Valley, and Aalbers all had one rebound each.

 

The Bulldogs’ next game is at home on Jan.16. against Pocahontas Area at 6:15 p.m.
