HAMPTON – Momentum wasn’t on Hampton-Dumont’s side when the Bulldogs took on newly-ranked No. 6 Class 1A Clarion-Goldfield on Thursday, Jan. 16 in an eventual 39-24 loss.

Five matches in, coach Nick Bretz’s squad was in a 24-0 deficit and had the Cowboys’ fifth-rated 138-pounder coming up against junior Max Lehmann.

Lehmann trailed Taylor Lehman of C-G 6-1 after the first period, but chose down to start the second and that is when the momentum switched his way.

“I would say definitely not getting taken down and then probably a lot of on the bottom work,” Max Lehmann said was key in his match in which he rallied for a 9-8 decision. “I feel like I’m pretty strong on bottom, that’s where I feel like I’m the strongest and so I felt like I could get the most points.”
