Budget cuts and tax reform on the agenda for 2017 legislature

     As the New Year gets underway, so does a new session for Iowa's legislators.
     The 2017 Iowa Legislative session started on Monday and will be a major shakeup from sessions in recent years due to a new Republican majority in the Senate and an impending transition in the executive office. With Governor Terry Branstad being tapped to be the United States Ambassador to China, Lt. Governor Kim Reynolds will step up to carry on in his place.
     Speaker of the House Linda Upmeyer says that she doesn't expect the transition from Branstad to Reynolds will bring a dramatic change in the legislature's agenda as Reynolds already worked closely with the Governor on his priorities.
     "I'm looking forward to working with the new governor when the time comes," said Upmeyer.
