The former Korner Bakery building is no longer vacant.
The Sunflowers & Stardust Boutique on Sunday, July 7 opened in the location at 122 First Ave. NW. The main floor of the building had been empty since the bakery closed last spring.
Amanda Simons, co-founder of the boutique, said she was thrilled to have the opportunity to open her business in a place that had served the community for so many years.
“I grew up around here getting donuts from the shop and when I saw it was for rent, I leaped at the opportunity to be on Main Street with the other shops here,” she said, “and I thought the location would be better for people to find us and browse.”
Simons had been operating the boutique online before opening its first physical location in May. The boutique specializes in clothing, jewelry, bags, accessories and children's clothing at affordable prices. Additionally, Simons said a vintage rack at the store will benefit Crisis Intervention Services. A portion of each sale from the rack will be given to CIS to supplement the organization's efforts.
