Blum's legacy lives on through organic farm

Family members came together last weekend to honor the last wishes of a former Hampton lawyer known for his conservationist spirit and progressive outlook.
Children, in-laws and grandchildren planted more than 800 trees and shrubs Saturday at an organic farm owned by the late Lee Blum. The well-known attorney was born and raised in Franklin County and practiced law in Hampton for six decades, but his true passion was farming. He was one of the first organic farmers in the area and always had his sights set on future sustainability.
“Sometimes there were people that would tell him he was crazy,” said Blum’s widow, Joyce. “But he felt that the earth was being mined in the long run. He was very interested in saving the land and preserving it for future generations.”
