Local officials have set a Jan. 7 arraignment date for a Hampton man accused of First Degree Murder.
Judge James Drew last Wednesday set the arraignment date for Ronald Lee Rand, 61, Hampton. Prosecutors say Rand shot and killed his girlfriend, Michelle Key, 51, Waterloo, on Dec. 13 following an argument at his home. According to a criminal complaint, Rand admitted to the shooting when police arrived on scene in response to a possible suicidal individual.
Rand will be formally advised of the charges against him and asked to enter a plea during the arraignment. He was charged with First Degree Murder on Dec. 14 and has been held without bond at the Hardin County Jail for the past two weeks. Online court records show that he will be transported to the Cerro Gordo County Jail sometime before Dec. 31.
