WAVERLY – More than a handful of former area football players were involved in the newly-renamed American Rivers Conference football game between Wartburg College and Buena Vista University.

The Knights dominated the game, 63-0, rolling out to a 42-0 halftime score.

It was an ominous start as the Beavers’ Charlie Flickinger, a Hampton-Dumont graduate, was injured on the very first offensive play for the visitors. He had to be helped off the field and was later seen in street clothes on the training table with ice surrounding his ankle.
