Area farmers gathered at the Rustic Brew on Wednesday, July 13, to consider participating in a lawsuit against Syngenta for their role in destabilizing the global corn market.
Jacquelyn Garay, an attorney representing Mauro, Archer & Associates PLLC out of Washington DC, was there to inform the farmers about the lawsuit and offer them the opportunity to sign up among the plaintiffs.
The lawsuit stems from the 2009 release of Syngenta's genetically engineered corn, MIR162. The corn was introduced into the U.S. market before gaining import approval from China. The lawsuit claims that Syngenta's CEO stated that approval was expected in mid-2012, however that approval never happened.
