Construction on Alliant Energy’s third wind farm in Franklin County is expected to begin this spring.
Justin Foss, Alliant spokesperson, said the first step of the project will be installing the infrastructure, such as roads and holdings, for the turbines in April, weather cooperating. The hope, Foss said, is to have the wind farm operational by the end of 2019.
Once complete, the wind farm, to be named Whispering Willow North, will contain approximately 80 turbines that will generate 200 megawatts of power. Combined with Alliant’s existing wind farms in Franklin County at Whispering Willow East and the Franklin County Wind Farm, Alliant will generate 500 megawatts of wind energy in the county.
