Alliant Energy eyes Latimer for development

     With Alliant Energy’s plans to expand Whispering Willows over the next several years, the utility company will need to develop infrastructure to transport materials and run management operations. The City of Latimer is a viable option for the power company.
     Tony Vaughn, site manager for the Franklin County and Whispering Willows Wind Farm, proposed a scenario to the Latimer Council in which Alliant would purchase four lots on the Latimer Industrial Park, which would be used over the next several years as storage space, maintenance, assembly space and management operations. At least one of the lots will be a structure for operations, much like the facility on the south side of Franklin County, before Iowa Falls.
     The caveat to Alliant’s potential investment in approximately $1 million on the property is that Latimer will have to develop the lots further to accommodate the corporation’s use of the space.
