FORT DODGE — It was far from over but AGWSR was feeling pressure while trailing 3-2 against Janesville in its Class 1A quarterfinal game at Rogers Park in Fort Dodge on Monday, July 16.

And freshman Alyssa Hames had been going through a bit of a post-season slump at 1-for-10.

But she followed up Taylor Sperfslage’s RBI single that tied it with one of her own helping the Cougars advance with a 4-3 win to play in Wednesday’s semifinal against Akron-Westfield at 1 p.m.

“It was, like, ‘oh crap this is it,’” Hames said of her at-bat. “I thought, ‘don’t catch it (the ball), get down, hope it’s a hit and score.’ That’s pretty much all I thought going through that.”
