AMES – AGWSR came so far when no one expected the Cougars to.

And, when it seemed like coach Shelby Abbas’ team was in control, it all slipped through their grasp.

In the opening two sets of the Class 1A regional final against Guthrie Center, AGWSR had five-point leads only to see the Tigers rally past them in a 25-20, 26-24, 19-25, 25-15 victory that decided who would go to the state volleyball tournament.

“A lot of (it was) our own mistakes,” AGWSR co-head coach Shelby Abbas said. “It goes back to not hitting the ball hard and weren’t getting the block closed like we should have. The girls played well – we’re proud of them. We can’t say a whole lot of bad things tonight.”
