AGWSR baseball has Janesville on brink, can’t hold on

JANESVILLE – AGWSR nearly pulled off an amazing upset in the Class 1A district baseball tournament on Thursday, July 17.

The Cougars had a 5-1 lead and two outs against 19-4 Janesville in the sixth inning, but couldn’t get the final out as the Wildcats more than batted around to take a 9-5 lead and grab the victory from AGWSR’s clutches.

Dylan Heetland, who had kept the Wildcats off-balance for the most part through five innings, gave up two walks and a bloop single that got Janesville going in that fateful sixth.

“He threw three good innings Tuesday night, and I knew he had it in him,” AGWSR coach Darwin Pfaltzgraff said. “I just found out after the game that his sister’s boyfriend/husband has family from here, so there was more of a goal for him to beat Janesville...."
