Three people were transported from the scene of an accident involving two vehicles, a motorcycle and one semi between Chapin and Sheffield on Highway 65 late Wednesday afternoon.

Very few details were available at the time of this posting. The two vehicles – a truck and a car – were totaled in the accident, and the motorcycle came to rest on its side in the ditch. Traffic was diverted on the entire stretch of road between Chapin and Sheffield so emergency personnel could address the situation.

According on-scene Iowa State Patrol Officers, a medical helicopter was called in to transport victims from the accident. Officers were unable to provide details on their conditions.

The semi driver wasn't injured in the accident. He said he felt something hit his trailer, but was unsure what happened or how the collision occurred. He was able to bring the semi to a stop in a field driveway more than half a mile from the scene of the accident. The trailer sustained damage to some of its wheels.

Highway 65 between Chapin and Sheffield was still closed as of Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. so emergency personnel could clean up the road. What appeared to be construction equipment from the pickup, which was flipped on its top, was scattered throughout the scene of the accident.
